As a trauma informed therapist, I can apply my knowledge in our sessions to help you gain coping skills and strategies to deal with complex trauma . This in turn will help you to deal with stress, anxiety, and depression.
Through our work, I hope you will be empowered to make your own autonomous decisions, by engaging with self-care and self-compassion.
WHAT IS COMPLEX TRAUMA?
Unresolved trauma can leave you feeling hopeless and ashamed. Exposure to multiple or individual trauma can result in post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
I feel it is important to normalise and understand why you feel the way you do, and to manage flash backs, unwanted images and distressing memories which cause feelings of panic and terror.
PANIC ATTACKS
Panic Attacks can be so overwhelming, they can appear life threatening. One way to help manage panic attacks is to understand the link with unprocessed thoughts and feelings. In sessions we can safely explore these and identify any anxieties that may trigger these attacks.
DISSOCIATION
Dissociation is a normal response to trauma, when we are under threat dissociation anaesthetises the intensity of both physical and emotional pain. This is called survival.
Have you lost time or spaced out, detached from your body. I can support you to recognise dissociation and or depersonalisation. Grounding exercises can help to reconnect to your body in a safe way.
